Judge John J. Russo

The mission of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas is simple; “To provide a forum for the fair, impartial and timely resolution of civil and criminal cases.”

But there really is so much more to it. We have the privilege of serving and working with the diverse and large population of Cuyahoga County. We often interact with people who have very different life experiences, both in our day to day jobs and with our co-workers. Because of that, I sought to begin annual diversity training.

We learned about Compass Consulting Services, LLC, and Tameka's great reputation through the Diversity Center. Tameka and her team began with a three-day program for our managers and department heads, and then we provided a condensed single-day session for the rest of our Court employees.

Tameka’s program forces you to take a close look at yourself and the people you interact with. It’s never to the point of being uncomfortable, but you certainly have something to think about at the end of the day.

Perhaps the best part of the Compass Consulting Services is that the experience is interactive. You talk to people. You role play. You work as a team. At the end of the day, you truly know your co-workers better and have a better understanding of the many different life journeys that were taken to become employees of the Common Pleas Court. The training opened your eyes to help us understand who is the person standing in front of us and how to treat everyone as an equal in our job as public servants.

We look forward to having annual diversity training and continuing to challenge our Court employees to look at everyone for the unique individuals that they are.
